
BACKGROUND
In accordance with Chapter 12 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, and all other applicable legislation recognising traditional leadership, the Bakoena Royal House proudly continues its mandate of cultural preservation, community leadership and ancestral stewardship. We, the Bakoena Nation based in QwaQwa, South Africa are ruled by Morena e Moholo Moremoholo Mopeli. The Bakoena Royal family is the most dominantly recognised indigenous group that reigns over the Basotho people in the country of South Africa.
Morena e Moholo is a descendent of, Morena Paulos Mopeli, who is a younger Brother of the Iconic King and founder of the Basotho Nation, Motlotlehi Rabasotho Morena Moshoeshoe I.
Since the arrival of Morena Paulos Mopeli in the then Witsieshoek region in 1868, the royal succession of the Bakoena Leadership in QwaQwa, has been preserved through generations. The lineage is as follows:
