Our History

In accordance with Chapter 12 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, and all other applicable legislation recognising traditional leadership, the Bakoena Royal House proudly continues its mandate of cultural preservation, community leadership and ancestral stewardship. MISSION

The slogan for the Bakoena Royal Council is - HO’LA – meaning Grow

We strive to build community amongst the Sotho People and an enabling environment where the “Hola-Qwaqwa” meaning ‘’grow QwaQwa’’ slogan can be realised by; drawing lessons from past experiences, taking advantage of available opportunities in the present, and creating opportunities that will yield sustainable fruits in the future.

HO’LA – BACK THEN

Looking at milestones and activities that made Qwaqwa great in the past.

HOLA – GROW

Looking at the current state of affairs in Qwaqwa and utilising all available resources in our region and beyond, to bring about a marked change in our lifetime. Taking full advantage of educational and socio-economic opportunities, fulfilling individual and organizational responsibilities, delivering on leadership obligations in a professional manner, and living up to the moral principle of “Ubuntu- Motho ke Motho ka Batho”.

VISION

The revival and reformation of the Basotho Culture and Customs, with global competence through economic development and educational diversification.

Our Projects

At the heart of our mission is a commitment to uplifting communities through meaningful initiatives. Each month, we run projects aligned with significant holidays and themes, focusing on education, empowerment, and social impact. From celebrating academic achievements and promoting governance awareness to honouring human rights and preserving cultural heritage, our programs create lasting change. Whether it is supporting the youth in June, giving back on Mandela Day, or standing with vulnerable communities in November, every project is a step toward a better future.
